A First Meadow Brown

A double first in fact; not only is it the first meadow brown of the year, it is the first ever butterfly I've ever photographed in my little gravelly garden.

It is very early in the summer for meadow browns, and this one was rather cold and sleepy, hence me being able to get a half decent photo of it.

Normally they are far more lively!

It has been generally a rotten day today, but I did manage to get out for a nice run in the evening at a decent pace and in drier weather. More rain forecast tomorrow, pain as I want to get some washing done!
