New Emergences amongst the Dread

Day whatever it is of self isolation and social distancing, think this is now three weeks in.

Or it might be four. I really don't know.

I decided to get a walk in early today, knowing that the weather was due to take a bad turn as indeed it did. I walked along the river and then through Sconce Park, where the fortification now has dense little clusters of stichwort growing on its slopes.

This is the only place in town where I see these pretty white flowers grow, and it is always pleasing to see them. As it is pleasant to see anything that isn't a horrible news story at the moment to make my anxiety build and take my breath away.

Butterfly wise, I'm seeing holly blue about now, and a fair few white tip females but not the males. Wonder what is going on there? In my little yard, red mason bees are continually examining the crumbling bricks in my back wall and hopefully they will make a home there.

Sand martins have now arrived on the Trent, flying about by the North Marina.

Their enjoyment of spring will not be sullied by anything.

Si

  1. Like you Si, I love stitchwort - such a simple flower.

  2. There used to be a lot of stitchwort growing around the perimeter of our village cricket field. I must have spent an hour or two of my life retrieving balls there.

  3. The stitchwort is beautiful, I've not seen any round here yet (though I don't think it grows along the route of our allowed daily walk).
