Was just taking myself and my bike and my bed to bed last night when silhouetted against the sodium streetlit entrance to my drive, a small dark shape scuttle across the orange glow.
Obviously I knew what it was, but not how little it was. It was a half size hedgehog, a hoglet, out for an evening snuffle amid the leaves, only it was heading towards the road, pumped up on its little suspension like an old Citroen.
I headed it off, and it shot off surprisingly quickly to the shelter of the wall by the old Church next door. It was a shy little hoglet, and it decided to keep its face hidden while I took a couple of quick shots before leaving it be.
There was no casualty on the road this morning, so I'm hoping it was OK.

You are doing very well with your hedgehog sightings.
ReplyDeleteOh hedgehog are so cute creatures of this world, there is one visitor in my garden but my dad is the only one to notice him. I tried, he is out of sight
ReplyDelete. Shy family of the hedgehogs!
Someone I know has a whole family! Good to see them about.
ReplyDeleteLovely critters! We have them in the garden from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThey are fascinating and super cute critters.
ReplyDeleteI hope he will be careful.
So many get killed on the road - why do they always make for the road when surely the fields are full of things for them to eat.
ReplyDeleteSo do I, making first steps on his own in the big wide world
ReplyDeleteLovely to see the young hedgehog - sadly, sometimes see road casualties round here :(
