End of an Era

So, I had just cycled to Sconce Park for a cup of tea when my landlord's son came up  to me and said hi.

Only he wasn't the landlord's son  anymore, he was now the landlord as he had bought my place from his parents. This now explains why there was all those irritating survey visits a month or two ago. The upshot is that he wants to turn my place into one house along with the vacant downstairs flat, and I am going to have to move out.

I'm not hugely surprised to be honest, the work needed to bring my place - which I've lived in for nearly 14 years now - up to standard was always going to need me gone. The place needs gutting. But it had a nice quiet location with a little garden, and I shall miss that.

It  won't be too hard to  find another place, I hope; already seen a couple of good ones online that have things like, you know, working boilers and non crumbling doorframes. But it's a distraction to my routine, and I don't like that.

Si

  1. Oh so sorry you have an upheaval. I hope it is sorted for you with as little stress as possible. I can't believe landlords can do this? I suppose they just make it so unpleasant to comply is the lesser evil. Wish I could help more.

  2. Not sure about your tenants law/rights but here it's a 60 day notice to vacate for building work/renovations.
Good to hear you may have a place to go.

  3. I wouldn't like that kind of upheaval either, especially as you've had no choice in the matter. I suppose the only thing to do is to look on it as an opportunity to improve your circumstances. I hope you find somewhere suitable quite soon.

  4. I'm sorry to hear this Si, I understand how unsettling moving home can be. There's every chance you'll look back on it as a blessing in disguise.

  5. Yes two months is what he told me the minimum would be, perhaps three. We will see.
