A White Tailed Bumble - I Think

It's been a pleasant enough day today, once I'd gotten through the chill start to the morning that meant gloves and jackets are now back as the order of the day for cycle commuting.

There's still plenty of insect life on campus, with red admiral and small white butterflies about, and these funny little pinky-red flowers that form a large amount of the workplace hedges attracting bees.

One poor insect was less lucky, I caught what looked like a hoverfly recently caught and wrapped by a pale coloured orb weaver. It is their season.

On the verbena, still blooming strong for now, a white tailed bumblebee was feeding backwards and forth, making the most of the food sources that remain to it. They aren't as easy to identify as their buff tailed cousins, and I never seem to see as many of them as the buffies, but I'm thinking this is one.

But please tell me I'm wrong.

Si

  1. It does have a white bum. I dont know enough about bees. Something to sort, but my photographs are not as good as yours.

  2. A great set of close-ups. Just shows that there's so much to see if we only take the time to look.

  3. Thank you so much! Heck it's only a Huawei P8 lite, if only I had a really good phone camera!

  4. Excellent photos, your bee does look like a white tailed, so often i find the two difficult to tell apart.
