Well it's not been the greatest day or night, but the sun still rose, and after a sharp shower even came out for a good long burst in the afternoon. The horrific humidity has eased a little, and when I got home from work I was able to have a pleasant walk as the dark grey receded and a blue weather front swept over the town.
And then, just up the road, I spotted a big bush of flowering lavender. Assuming it would be alive with bees, I gave it a close inspection, but of buzzers there were none.
Instead there was this beautiful metallic, shiny beetle. I'm not sure what species it is, it may be a rosemary beetle, but is certainly very beautiful.

The World in Supermacronation!!!
Supermacronation!
I love that word and I don't even know if it exists. It's like Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds and their "Supermarionation", only for taking close ups of pretty flowers instead of filming Brains struggling to come through a door on his strings.
The world has been frozen in time, as I go through my four day shift. It all happens outside the window, and by the time I get to leave at this time of year, though it may be light, buzzers and flutterers have gone home for the day. So I spend my on shift wondering what I shall do on the off, and ultimately overdoing it so I always end up slightly disappointed with efforts when I'm not working.
Now I have a bit more time off, so what to do now? The forty mile Robin Hood Byway loop on my bicycle? Whisby nature reserve? Leicester Space Centre? I'm waffling, I'm sure I've said all this before, but hey, I can do that on my own blog, surely.
One thing I intend to do is sketch, I think. Impressionistic sketching, working quickly as not to mess anything up. My artistic inability shames me, yet artists say there is one of them, in all of us. In my case I doubt it, but I will try.
Oh, I'm also going to read more. Outside. At night. With a head torch on.

The Tower of Flowers
For some idiotic reasons of blind ignorance, I only noticed this floral feature outside the library today.
It could have been there since yesterday, it could have been there for two years. I think I'm so used to this section of car park between the library and the cinema to be so utterly grim and concreted that perhaps my brain had decided that there was no way anything colourful, and thus edited it out.
I have no idea. My brain is a peculiar thing, as regular readers will know.
Anyway, I figured it was a nice target for some colour close up shots, so off I went on macro setting, getting strange looks from passers by yet again.
