We have had such a mild, damp autumn that it would appear that while some cultivated flowers are hanging on for longer than you would thing, other wildflower species have been spoofed into coming into flower again.
Others found the summer so stifling, conditions have only recently allowed them to thrive, such as the japanese anemone I came across in the library gardens. Elsewhere, hawthorn has decided to blossom again!
I'm still seeing queen buff tailed bumblebees feeding off coralberry flowers on campus, but I suspect now we are getting a touch of grass frost in the mornings, that will be them off to bed for the winter.
I hope you have been able to enjoy what is still on offer to us this autumn!
Si
