A Snowdrop in the Hand...

So, has this weekend been cold. Sheesh yes, my three days off have been a chiller.

But still, life proceeds outside, and on Monday the sun did appear and even though it was still cold, it was glorious.

I decided to occupy myself by inspecting snowdrops, looking into their flower heads, opening them up like gentle triffids. Judging by the different patterns, we have two main species, with different sub-groups within them.

Slightly fairy tale photos, sugary sweet, but hey it is Valentines Day I suppose. Luckily I did ride past a recently burnt out car on my way home, so not all is nausea inducing.

  1. I have been 'confined to quarters' since having a complete knee replaxcement, so I'm now raring to get outside again; through the window I can see Snowdrops in the front garden and I suspect that there are at least 3 different varieties. There are Hellebores growing almost hidden by the front hedge and a few Camellias are in full flower. I need to get out there with my camera!

  2. Love your photos! On TV yesterday, they were discussing how so many wild flowers are stolen and they mentioned snowdrops and how some varietes cost in the region of £500. They are so delicate and beautiful as your photos show.
