Rainy Day Explorations

Yesterday was the sort of day that indicated that the gods must have been confused. There was rain, sun, thunder, and if you lived in Sleaford, tornadoes. But here we mainly got rain, apart from a short window of blue sky that got me out of doors for a long walk as I'd been feeling cooped up, watching raindrops pour down the window like the coding in "The Matrix".

Pauses nervously. Has he 1) used that simile before? and 2) is it a reference enough of his readers will get?

Naturally, as soon as the door closed behind me, the sickly grey clouds had mounted up again, blocking the sky like poisoned treacle, and down it came again. But I was ready for this, I had my erotic yellow kag in a bag in my rucksack and was able to put it on straightaway. This would keep me dry, I figured.

Besides, I wanted to take some rainy shots of the lake, my phone was tucked away in my works gilet under the anorak, all was bound to be warm and snug. All would be fine. This was good practice for the really long walks I plan to make.

Of course, even without running, condensation soon mounted up under the kag, and the rain seemed to be finding a way in through the zipper and the seams that were supposed to be waterproof. I would have been dryer naked. My mobile phone ended up more than a little damp, and taking photographs was a struggle as the screen was too slippery to wipe. The ducks and geese, present in numbers, honked their distress at the weather.

But I managed to get some atmospheric shots, which I've had a little play with in pixlr as an experiment. I spent a lot of time imagining buying proper walking gear, shoes that were a shade more damp resistant, and waterproofs that were proof against water.

  1. Hello, Si! I love your photos almost as much as I love your writing.
The Matrix films are not really my genre, but obviously I need to see at least the first one again and more carefully.

  2. Thanks Ian and Sara, so glad you like the shots. Certainly I got soaked enough to get them for my readers!

  3. You managed to get some very nice rainy day photographs Simon. I do like the patterns that rain creates in water.

  4. Cheers Denise, I was kind of hoping to get those kind of results, even at the risk of a bloody drenching!

  5. The green colour of photo three is amazing

  6. Sorry John Pic 3 was washed through pixlr, as were they all. Saturation up a bit, and red reduced in colour balance, rather than green increased. Around the library, it can get as green as that naturally on a damp day.

  7. Love the pictures of the stormy day Si.
A tornado in Sleaford? That would be a bit of excitement for a sleepy town I know very well.

  8. Thanks! Apologies for ropey focus, everything was a bit wet and unsteady! I'm so looking forward to getting some proper gear and heading further afield.
