My Greatest Ever Photograph

I've been going through some of my older photographs, taken on my old Orange San Diego, and the quality of the images has both surprised me and upset me having used my Motorola for so long now. That had an 8mp camera as opposed to the 5mp on my Moto G, but the difference is like comparing a camera from 1915 with one from 2015.

Well, I've had enough! I'm not going to get one camera. I'm going to get two. Can't go running with a chunky bridge camera, going to get a compact as well! I'm fed up of showing you substandard images.

This is probably the greatest photograph I ever took. It was up on Beacon Hill Reserve in the early summer of, I think, 2014, and was just a piece of amazing luck brought about by the corner of my eye being able to detect a tiny flutter of motion on the ground below, on what I think is a bit of the delightfully named "skunk cabbage".

These little common blue butterflies were so engrossed in their Darwinian activity, I was able to get to about 10 centimetres away from them to take a series of shots that are archived in one of my blog posts from last year, should you care to look.

I really wish I'd entered it in some kind of competition, I really do. And it was taken on an own brand budget smartphone.

  3. Brilliant shot Simon. Just shows you don't always need a mega buck set up to get a really good photo.

  6. Thank you so much for your kind comments, but it does make my efforts in the last year seem rather awful. Onwards and up-wards, in all regards.

  12. Enter it into the Country-file calendar competition sometime! When they run the 'mating butterflies' theme. I'm waiting for the 'mating ladybirds' theme for the same reason. Nice post, keep up the good work! :)
